The Horecava Show in Amsterdam was worth visiting, mainly for the building Dutch foodservice contacts.
The show is Dutch oriented. There were few exhibitors from outside Holland and no North American companies. According to a few discussions we had with exhibitors, 95% of the visitors were Dutch.
The Dutch KHN Horeca (www.khn.nl), a large Dutch foodservice / hospitality trade association with over 20,000 members, plays a large part in organising and leading this event. They are very well connected and proved a very useful source of information and contacts.
The exhibitors can be categorised roughly into the following sectors: - 20% beverages: wine, spirits, beer and non-alcoholic - 20% equipment - 10% software - 50% food
It was interesting to note that some of the large Dutch foodservice distributors (eg, Hanos, Sligro) chose not to exhibit prominently at this show.
