Nuts leave, trees shaken

It is that time of year again when TradeScope takes a group of European buyers to meet with some of the world's biggest and best pecan producers in New Mexico and Arizona. This is another successful programme promoted by the Western United States Agricultural Trade Association (WUSATA®) .

We saw the harvest take place in most orchards we visited. Lots of tree shaking stuff (see photo)! New Mexico and Arizona have some of the highest pecan yields (3000 lbs per acre) because the dry, higher elevation growing conditions are perfect for pecans.

Western Europe is becoming an increasingly important market for the larger pecan processors in New Mexico and Arizona. TradeScope and WUSATA® work together to introduce buyers and producers. These trade missions nearly always result in serious business being done.
